Poem Analysis

Which is worth more, a crowd of thousands,

or your own genuine solitude?

Freedom, or power over an entire nation?

A little while alone in your room

will prove more valuable than anything else

that could ever be given you.

The poem give a series of questions that help us to think deeply about a certain topic. The first line in the poem leads us to think whether what you think or other’s opinion matter. It is kind of like what is socially acceptable versus what you really think. The question help us think deeply about what really matters to us. The second line in the poem compares freedom to power. It shows that one may think that having power is a good thing, but what we think is important might not be as important. You only know the value of something when it is taken away, just like when you don’t have freedom. The true meaning of the poem is to let us think what is really important in our life. Some of these questions might be hard to choose, which is the real purpose of it.
